Embroidered Baking Day Apron Towel

Here is another little towel I worked on in February and March.  I gave it to my sister-in-law who kindly hosted Easter for my husband's family this year.  She is quite the good cook and bake. I thought it fitting to give her an apron towel because not so many years ago she made me an actual apron that I love!

Unfortunately I did not write any of the thread colors down!  Next time I will try to do better about that.
That's all for today.  Until another time, have a happy stitchy day!

Embroidery Project with Artiste Floss

In late March, I found myself wanting to embroider.  So I had some fun with some Artiste floss and the button hole stitch again.

I just LOVE these happy, springy colors!

That's just a sneak peek for now, as this is still a work in progress.  I am not too sure what to do with the white space around the circles.  I guess time will tell.
That's all for today, until another time, have a happy, stitching day!

Christmas Embroidery Projects

Here are the stitching projects that I did throughout November and December.
The one farthest left was the first one I did and it has an embroidered fruit boarder.  Every time I see it I think of the 1949 LUX Theater radio production of Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House because that's one of the shows I listened to (two evenings in a row) while working on it.

I was so bummed out when the sun beams behind the strawberry baskets didn't was out.  I accidently washed them in WARM water instead of very COLD water.  An important embroidery lesson was learned and I will never forget...cold water!

I found this ADORABLE Aunt Martha pattern at my local Thrifty White Drug Store (that's where I find the best flour sack dish towels too!)
I whipped up this Market Day one using pretty Spring colors.

November Embroidery Sneak Peek

I did some stitching throughout the month of November.  I dusted off my embroidery case full of threads (literally had to dust it off as it hasn't been used in....I can't even remember how long) and while I can't share the projects with you because some might end up being Christmas gifts, I would like to give a sneak peek!

I did a little thread sorting and had to wind some bobbins  (that's almost as fun as embroidering!)

I found this SWEET 1930s reproduction material at JoAnn's Fabrics.  Because I had a coupon, and because I loved it so much I bought a whole yard!  I found out that JoAnn's has a ton of new 1930s feed sack styles!  Yeah, because that's what I need is more feed sack fabric. (eye roll)

Here is a sneak peak at what I'm doing with this adorable fabric.
A little red rick-rack is always fun!

Oh, I can't wait until when I can show you all of my embroidery projects!
Until another time, have a happy stitching day!

Stitching--Blasts From the Past

Sometimes it's fun to go through old photo files to check out what I was up to, crafting wise, years ago.  I found an old folder of embroidery projects and wanted to share them with you!

First, there's my fuzz bud, Kramer, who loves to sit on my lap while stitch.

Below is the little train case I decorated.  It still holds many of my little crafting treasures.

I'd forgotten all about the TUSAL jar!  It was a jar where I collected the little bits of thread snipped off of a project that were too short to use.

Back when I first started embroidering everything fit into this little desktop organizer.

A living in the country set made from Aunt Martha's "Life on the Farm"
embroidery pattern packet #4021

One of the first travel kits I put together.

Well, that was fun!  Next time I will share a sneak peek of the embroidery project I've been working on as Christmas presents!
Until another time, have a happy, stitchy day!

Jell-O Chiffon Pie Strawberry Filling Box

On my most recent trip to Vintage City I found this adorable, PINK Jell-O box of Chiffon Pie filling.  I just love that they dot the "I"s with stars, don't you?  Imitation Strawberry flavor pie filling...I wonder what that tasted like.  I've heard it said that everything tasted better back then.

I'm not positive, but I'm dating the box anywhere between 1958 and 1962.

Here is an ad from my June 1958 Ladies Home Journal

I also spotted these little potholders that my daughter said were homely, but I think are darling.  Maybe some little girl was trying her hand at embroidery?  Maybe she sat for hours on her grandma's back porch practicing her blanket stitch while Grandma sat next to her and knitted, all the while keeping an eye on the little girl's stitching.  Who knows, but for the cost of a bottle of Coca-Cola, they are now mine to love.

This black velvet purse called out my name and it will be perfect for a night out on the town.

That's all for today!  Happy treasure hunting everyone and have a happy vintage day!

Tea Pot Serviette

This is a pattern I found on Pinterest a while back, but I think it might originally be from a site called Turkey Feathers?  I'm really not sure, but it sure is a cutie!

First, I had to hem two of the sides of the serviette.

And that's all for today!  Have a happy creative day!

Redwork Pitcher and Cups Towel

Here is another little embroidery project I've been working on.  The lines look a little heavy because I used 3-ply thread on this one because I plan to put it to good use drying dishes.  It's actually a towel I've already been using, I felt it needed a little decoration.

I've always liked this pattern!  It reminds me of the big, red Kool-Aid pitcher guy from the commercials during my childhood years.

That's all for today.  I hope you all are having a good summer, wherever you are!
Until next time, have a happy vintage day!

Summertime Embroidery

Wow!  Long time no blog!  So sorry to anyone who follows me, but life has gotten incredibly busy.
The good news is I have began doing a little more embroidery again...not much, but some.

To get started again, I traced this cute little pattern found long ago on Pinterest, onto a little tea towel I had laying around.

Not too bad a start I suppose.  I used only red to keep it simple (plus I really like red work).

That's all for today, but I hope to write again real soon!  Stay creative, and have a happy vintage day!

S is for Sunday Project Finished!

Here is the completed S is for Sunday Project.  At least I hope it's completed Ha!  Sometimes I take a closer look and realize I missed something.

I just need to toss it into the wash for a good washing and then iron it and it'll be ready for duty as a dish cloth.
Lately, the dishcloths that I have been buying from our local drug store are turning yellow if they sit for any length of time.  I wonder if there is any way to remedy that without having to use bleach.  I stitched some red work chickens awhile back and haven't washed them yet, and the towels are turning absolutely YELLOW!  I don't dare bleach newly done red work, so I think I will wash them in cold first (to colorfast them) and then try bleaching them after that.  Hopefully the red will not fade with the bleach or I'll try "color safe" bleach.
From now on, I think I will try washing the towels right away, in bleach, when I get them.  Maybe they will stay white for longer.  We'll see.

Oh!  And I haven't forgotten about the rest of my goodies from November's flea market...I'll be posting them on Friday, so stay tuned!

That's all for today.  Until another time, have a happy stitching day!

S is for Sunday Embroidery Project

It's been a long time since I've embroidered (seems like I start most embroidery posts that way, these days). Life has been so busy, there has been very little time for embroidery.  And can you BELIEVE it's been a year since I stitched the "M is for Monday" towel!  Wow, time flies.

I really like these "Days of the Week Letter" motifs.  The actual transfers are not in my possession, therefore, they have to be traced onto fabric using the light-box.

Yes, just like it says, I found this pattern at Tipnut.com--it's a fun site!
And here is my little project, so far!

Much of my embroidering is done while my daughter is in choir practice.  This time of year, they practice 1.5-2 hours on certain evenings, and I sit and embroider.  This project has been a special treat because her choir has been practicing with our city's Symphony Orchestra!  It's such fun to sit and embroider while listening to such wonderful music!

That's all for today.  Until another time, have a

Ebroidered Hen Dish Towel Finished

Finally!  Henrietta the Hen is finished!  I went through a stage where I didn't do any vintage embroidery.  But now that I've had my little break, and depending upon how busy life gets around here, I'll might pick the needle back up in November.

I used a light orange and dark orange on her feet to give them a little bit of texture.
She originally had eggs in her basket, but I changed them to freshly picked strawberries.  I thought it odd that she would be taking her offspring to the market to sell them.  I don't know, maybe she just really needed the money (to pay off her hat and umbrella debt)?  Then again, maybe she was just taking her eggs out for a stroll.  That's a little better.  Either way I thought it strange, so POOF! they magically became strawberries instead.  No discussion needed about strawberries.

I used an artiste brand variegated brown for the hen's body.

That's all for today.   I hope to get to more stitching soon, but things are crazy-busy around here, so we'll see.  Until another time, have a happy, stitching day!

New Embroidery Towels

A few weeks ago I stopped into Hobby Lobby.  They had recently rearranged their needlework department and I wanted to see the end results.
I was pleasantly surprised to find a whole new section of hand-towels suitable for embroidery!

There were so many towels to choose from, some in packs of two or three!  I really liked the pink checkered set, and the cherries set.
In the end only one came home with me, a simple primary color striped cloth.

I'm in the process of embroidering a chicken on this towel and it should be done by the end of next week, so stay tuned!

Until another time, have a happy stitching day!
