Redwork Pitcher and Cups Towel

Here is another little embroidery project I've been working on.  The lines look a little heavy because I used 3-ply thread on this one because I plan to put it to good use drying dishes.  It's actually a towel I've already been using, I felt it needed a little decoration.

I've always liked this pattern!  It reminds me of the big, red Kool-Aid pitcher guy from the commercials during my childhood years.

That's all for today.  I hope you all are having a good summer, wherever you are!
Until next time, have a happy vintage day!

Summertime Embroidery

Wow!  Long time no blog!  So sorry to anyone who follows me, but life has gotten incredibly busy.
The good news is I have began doing a little more embroidery again...not much, but some.

To get started again, I traced this cute little pattern found long ago on Pinterest, onto a little tea towel I had laying around.

Not too bad a start I suppose.  I used only red to keep it simple (plus I really like red work).

That's all for today, but I hope to write again real soon!  Stay creative, and have a happy vintage day!

More Red Work

Had a little bit of time these past two weeks to do some stitching in the evenings.  Finally finished this little Red Work towel.

So that makes two towels finished, both being from the Aunt Martha pattern 3753 "Barnyard Happenings"

That's all for now.  Until another time, have a happy day!

Red Work Again

Oh happy day!  This past weekend I was sitting in my recliner doing nothing, and while it felt good to be doing nothing for a spell, I began to feel restless.  It seems I get that way when it's been awhile between crafting spurts, and when I don't have an active project.
I embroidered in November, baked cookies and candy in December, so once January rolled around I was all "crafted out" I guess you could say. I took a month to catch up on my children's book hobby and writing hobby.

Below is the cornucopia I embroidered back in November.

But this past weekend, I was starting to feel uneasy about being at a crafting crossroads.  I didn't really feel like quilting, I really didn't feel like embroidery either (having to choose colors, etc.) so instead, I picked up a tea towel that had a chicken pattern ironed onto it and started some red work.  Red work seems so easy to me because it involves just one bobbin of color (red), a scissor, a towel, and it gets me back into embroidery without having to dig all of my supplies out of their case.

I took it to my daughter's choir practice and got an extra hour of work done, so now I am almost finished!
So, hopefully I'll keep the momentum going and get back into embroidering again these next couple of months.  Then I might even be back to quilting again by April or May!

Until another time, have a happy stitching day!

Redwork

One of the things I'd like to learn more about in 2013 is redwork.  There are many websites online that teach about redwork, but I really like the site prettyimpressivestuff by Rissa Peace Root.  Rissa gives us a little background information on redwork embroidery, the best threads to use and tips and tricks.

Last spring-into-summer I made some window valences for my kitchen with red gingham on the bottoms of each valence.  I made two cafe curtains, one for each side of the window above my kitchen sink.  I transferred some fruit motifs onto them using Aunt Martha iron-on transfer "Fanciful Fruits for Tea Towels" #3749.  I started embroidering them in red thread...so I figure this could be considered redwork.

It's a UFO (unfinished object) as I have just a little bit left to embroider on this curtain.  Oh, and one more whole curtain to embroider.  But you never know, I just might finish them this year!

Happy Stitching Everyone!!
