Little Philco Transitone PT-6

Some of you may remember, from previous posts that I enjoy old time radio (OTR)...a lot.  I listen to it everyday (no, I'm not kidding, I'm that much of a geek).  Because I'm a vintage loving gal, I have a love/hate relationship with modern technology, including computers and smart phones.  But I have to admit, if it wasn't for my computer I wouldn't have discovered OTR. Without my computer I would not have the capability to download great music and shows from The Internet Archives and OTR websites. And without my iPhone, I wouldn't be able to listen to my OTR playlists anywhere, anytime.

Along with my love of OTR I love old radios.  Not so much of a love that I want to collect them, I just want ONE perfect little radio from the late 30's or early 40's, and this past spring, I FOUND ONE!!

It's a cute little Philco Transitone PT-6 from 1941.  It's in pretty bad shape (that's the understatement of the year) and I don't plan to refinish it anytime soon.  The insides are all there, but it needs new tubes, a new cord, and do-dads here and there.  But for 10$ I'm not picky.  I just loved the look of it!

Just for kicks I looked on YouTube to see if anyone has one that actually works...someone does.
It's about a 3 minute video (my Dad will like it).  It's just too bad that it only plays modern stations.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could have time traveling radios that could somehow tap into old airwaves, and we could always have OTR playing on our old radios.  Ha!

Well, that's all for today, until another time, have a happy,

Vintage Tablecloths from the Cosy Cottage

While in Granville a couple of weekends ago, my mom and I stopped into the little antique shop there, The Cozy Cottage (which has now closed its doors).  We walked around the cute little cottage, drooled over the hardwood floors, cute little bay window in the parlor, and its pocket doors.

I bought these two vintage table cloths.
The yellow one is cheerful and perfect for summer.  The red, white, and blue one will be the perfect cloth to have on the table for July.

And here is my stack of table clothes (I believe the blue and pink cherry one is missing from this pile).

Table cloths are so much fun to collect!  And they are useful too!

Until another time, have a happy vintage day!

A Visit to Vintage City

A couple months ago (yes, I'm that far behind on blogging) the folks and I visited our favorite little antique shop, Vintage City.  They bought an antique wardrobe for mother's room.  I bought some of my favorite things.

A new, blue table cloth with cherries on it, for my vintage table.  It's not too bright, worn just enough to be the perfect brightness.

And this beautiful set of 4 bowls.
They are in amazingly good condition, therefore, I won't be using them.  No pancake mix for these beauties!

The little graphic on the bowls is adorable and very 1930s or early 40's.

Also, a red and white compact which totally matches my RW&B purse!  LOVE it!

It is quite possible that I bought this beautiful, embroidered chair cover that day as well.

Now I think I have a collection!

Well, that's all for today.  Until another time, have a happy, vintage day!

Painting the Kitchen Cabinets White

Last year, my husband gave me a kitchen cabinet redo for my birthday. I wasn't sure we wanted to paint the cupboards, but this past April he decided that it was time to jump in with both feet and just do it.  Now that they are finished, I LOVE them!

It was a weekend of hard work but totally worth it!

Before...

During...Hard at work.

Saturday is over and the bottom cupboards and drawers are finished!  Time for bed.

Sunday we put Back to the Future on the TV for background noise, and set to work.  We listened to all three of them!
Finally, our work was completed.  Yea!

The kitchen feels a bit more vintage with its white cupboards and vintage décor.

Below are the before and after pictures.
Well, that's all for now.  Until another time, have a happy, vintage day!

Catalog Shopping for Household Goodies

Back in the day, there was no ordering items from the internet, but there WAS catalog shopping.  Here are a few miscellaneous things from my 1950 Sears catalog.

For the home seamstress there were pages of colorful fabrics.

I like the turquoise and gray one above, along with the purple and blue with circles.

Let's look at china.  I LOVE blue set with roses in the center.  My grandmother had a set of the "Nantucket".  It's very pretty too, in person.

Below is a closer look at the blue set and the Nantucket next to it.

Pricing in 1950.

Some lovely table cloths.  I have the fruit table cloth in blue.

Some CUTE kitchen curtains.  I like the red ginghams, top, third from the left, with ruffles, the best.

Finally, check out this adorable stove.  I like a white porcelain stove.

Well, that was a fun little shopping trip down memory lane.  Until another time, have a happy vintage day!

Vintage Little Girl Dresses

I've always LOVED little girl vintage dresses!  My daughter used to wear what my mother and I called "Sally" dresses after the little girl, Sally, in the Dick and Jane books of the 50's and 60's.  I even have some hanging in my laundry room.
Below, is a picture of my daughter in one of her little "Sally" dresses.

One thing I noticed is that the school aged girls all wear brown or black shoes, the toddlers all wear white.  Funny how that worked.

Ahhh, so sweet.  I think I would want them all!

Aren't they just the sweetest little dresses!?  I really like the little peach one and the green one with white stripes.

Well, that's all for today.  Until another time, have a happy, vintage day!
